Modular UAV Design & Manufacturing
In this project I tried to create a fully modular UAV design, with the idea that every part could be easily replaced, upgraded, etc. However, at the time of building I was not able to find an optimal 3D printing profile to minimize the weight. The resulting prototype weighed too much for the selected propulsion device (a 1000kv brushless motor). For this reason no actual flight tests were conducted, and the project was put to a halt due to time constraints.
However, since then I’ve learned some new techniques for 3D printing, including printing thin structures only 1 layer thick. This could significantly reduce the weight of the aircraft by up to 30% (a conservative estimate based on Creality Slicer Version 6.0).
